What would change the story. If industry earnings drop below their level at the end of the sideways period while prices stay high, prices would be rising without earnings.

Sector analysis: how the top 25 sectors are picked
Every review scores 219 Indian sectors on their long price shape and earnings. A sector ranks high when its prices moved sideways for a long time and then broke out, while company earnings kept growing and its stocks beat the Nifty 500. The strongest 50 then get a full reading of results and company calls.
That reading checks 16 kinds of business change, one by one, for each sector. The top 25 are the ones where the price shape, the earnings and the company evidence agree best.

Questions people ask about top sectors
How often is the top 25 sectors list updated?
The order changes when a new sector review runs. The latest is 10 October 2026 and the one before was 22 August 2026. The company counts refresh every week and the Nifty index figures every trading day.
Does a top sector mean its shares will keep rising?
No. The ranking describes what already happened: the price shape, earnings and company news. Sectors that broke out in the past have often given the gains back. Each card says what would change the story.
What does beating the Nifty 500 mean here?
A company beats the Nifty 500 when its share price return over 3 months is at least 5 percentage points better than the index. Only companies worth ₹500 crore or more are counted.
What is sector rotation?
Sector rotation is price strength moving from one group of companies to another. This page shows it two ways: which sectors entered or left the top 25, and how many companies in each sector are beating the index week by week.
Where do the reasons on each card come from?
From each sector's reported results, the results calls of its biggest companies and shareholding filings, put in plain words. The numbers are checked against those sources.
Is this a recommendation?
No. It is research and education about sectors. Sector Alpha is not a SEBI-registered research analyst and gives no price targets.
