What is the difference between a stock split and a bonus issue?

In a split, each share is cut into smaller shares with a lower face value. In a bonus, the company gives extra shares from its reserves and the face value stays the same. NSE listed 43 splits and 40 bonus issues in the 12 months to 1 November 2026.

What are the ex-date and record date for a split or bonus?

The record date is the day the company checks who holds its shares. The ex-date is the first day the share trades without the new shares attached. Since India moved to next-day settlement, the two fall on the same day, and they did for 71 of the 77 events here.

  • To get the bonus or split shares, you must hold the share at the end of the day before the ex-date.
  • On the ex-date the exchange adjusts the price for the new share count, so a chart can show a sudden drop that is not a loss.
  • The new shares usually reach the demat account a few days after the record date.

Questions people ask about bonus shares and splits

Does a bonus or split make a share worth more?

No. Both add shares and lower the price per share in the same ratio, so the total value held is unchanged on the ex-date. Only the share count and the price per share change.

Where does this list come from?

From NSE's own corporate-actions feed, which we read every day and keep as a dated record. This version was read on 1 November 2026. BSE-only companies are not in it.

Why is a company missing from this list?

The list covers NSE-listed companies with an ex-date in the last 12 months or later. An entry without a plain share ratio, such as a bonus of preference shares, is left out and counted in a note under the bonus list.

Does this page rate any company that gave a bonus or split?

No. It lists the events and their dates. Sector Alpha gives no tips, ratings or price targets.
