Or put rupees into an Indian mutual fund or ETF that tracks a US index. (RBI, Income Tax Department, IRS and Budget 2026-27 rules as published, read 20 October 2026. A resident Indian may send up to USD 250,000 abroad in each April to March financial year under RBI's Liberalised Remittance Scheme, and buying foreign shares is a permitted use. Travel, gifts and education abroad use the same limit. - Is tax collected when I send money abroad to invest in US stocks? Yes, above ₹10 lakh in a financial year. From 1 April 2026, tax collected at source (TCS) is 20% on LRS money above ₹10 lakh for purposes other than education or medical treatment. It counts as tax paid, so it is set against your income tax or refunded. - How are US stocks taxed for Indian residents? The US withholds 25% of dividends paid to Indian residents under the India-US tax treaty, and does not tax a non-resident's share gains. India taxes both: gains on shares held over 24 months at 12.5%, shorter gains and dividends at your slab rate, with credit for US tax through Form 67. - What time does the US stock market open in India? At 7:00 pm India time while the US is on daylight saving time (until 1 November 2026), and at 8:00 pm in the US winter. It closes at 1:30 am or 2:30 am India time. - Can I invest in US stocks without sending money abroad? Yes. Indian mutual funds and NSE-listed ETFs that track the Nasdaq 100 or the S&P 500 are bought in rupees. SEBI caps how much Indian funds may invest abroad, so some stop taking new money at times. Check an ETF's price against its NAV first. - Does the rupee affect returns on US stocks? Yes. Your return in rupees is the share's return in dollars plus the change in the dollar against the rupee. A weaker rupee adds to it, a stronger rupee takes away. This page shows US dollars only. - Why is there no US dividend stocks list here? We could not yet work out a current dividend yield we trust for every company: our filings data misses or disagrees for many large payers, and some foreign companies report in their own currency. We will add the list once the yield checks out. - Does this page say which US stock to buy? No. Every list is a fact with its rule printed beside it.
